The best luxury hotel in Bali for 2026 is Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan (9.6 on Booking.com, from $724 per night). The highest rated property is Bvlgari Resort Bali on the Uluwatu cliffs (9.7, from $1,202). For a head to head between the two see our Four Seasons Sayan vs Bvlgari Bali comparison. The single best choice depends on whether you want jungle (Ubud), cliff (Uluwatu) or beach (Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Canggu). Most well planned trips split 3 to 4 nights between two regions.
Bali is not one destination. It is five distinct regions with very different characters, very different weather patterns, and very different luxury hotel scenes. The Ubud jungle is unrecognisable from the Uluwatu cliffs, which are unrecognisable from the Seminyak beachfront. Get the region right first, the property right second, and any of these 15 hotels will work. Get it the other way around and even the best property feels off. For a wider view of the island start at our Bali destination hub.
This guide is the ranking I would give my own family planning a 2026 Bali trip. Every property below is bookable on Booking.com, paid for personally on past stays or sourced through industry channels I disclose. None of these placements were a press trip. The order inside each region reflects how each hotel actually performs against the five things that matter on a luxury Bali stay: the villa, the food, the spa, the staff, and whether you would genuinely want to come back. If you are still deciding between Bali and other Asia Pacific options, our Kyoto luxury hotels guide and Maldives honeymoon resorts guide cover the two most common alternatives.
Choose your region first
If you only have 5 to 7 nights, pick two regions. The classic split is Ubud plus a beach region. If you have 10 nights or more, three regions is achievable. If you have under 5 nights, pick one region and stay put.
If you only have time for one region, make it Ubud. The Sayan and Kedewatan valleys north of central Ubud hold the highest density of genuinely world class luxury hotels in Southeast Asia. Plan for jungle, rice paddies, a serious wellness scene and a 60 to 90 minute drive from the airport.
Uluwatu is the dramatic alternative to Ubud. Limestone cliffs falling 100 metres into the Indian Ocean, the most reliable surf in Bali, and a coastline that still feels wild. Drive time from the airport is the best on the island at 25 to 40 minutes.
Seminyak is Bali's social capital. Beach clubs, designer shopping, the strongest restaurant scene on the island, and direct access to a long stretch of black sand beach. Choose Seminyak when nightlife and dining matter more than seclusion.
Nusa Dua is a gated resort peninsula on the south coast, 20 minutes from the airport. Calm, swimmable beaches, the most family friendly infrastructure in Bali, and a quieter atmosphere than the west coast. The best choice for first time visitors with children.
Canggu is the youngest, most creative corner of Bali. Surf breaks, design hotels, plant based restaurants and a digital nomad scene that has matured into one of Asia's most interesting small towns.
When to visit Bali in 2026 and 2027
The best months to visit Bali are May, June and September. These months sit inside the dry season with reliable weather but outside peak European and Australian school holidays. Rates run 25 to 40 percent below July and August peak. The very best week of the year for value is the first week of May, when hotels are quietest just before the European summer wave arrives.
The three quietest weeks of the year
The first week of May. Dry season has started, rainfall has dropped, but European summer holidays have not begun and Australian schools are mid term. Rates run 25 to 40 percent below July and August peak. The single best week of the year for value.
The first three weeks of November. A slightly wetter shoulder month, but rain comes in short afternoon bursts. Crowds are thin, rates are at their lowest of the year, and the island feels noticeably more local.
Mid February through early March. After the Australian summer wave passes and before Nyepi disrupts mid March, Bali enters a genuinely quiet period. Greenery is at its peak, waterfalls are running, and you will have any restaurant table you want.
Nyepi is the Balinese New Year, a 24 hour island wide silent retreat. Nyepi 2027 falls on Monday, March 8. The airport closes completely. No one is permitted outside their hotel or villa. If you are flying in or out on Nyepi or the day immediately after, change your dates. If you are already on the island it becomes one of the most unusual cultural experiences in Asia.
The 15 best luxury hotels in Bali, by region
Ranked within each region by overall experience, not price. Honest about who each hotel suits best and what to watch out for before you book.
Six luxury hotels in Ubud, ranked
If you only have time for one region, make it Ubud. The Sayan and Kedewatan valleys north of central Ubud hold the highest density of genuinely world class luxury hotels in Southeast Asia. Plan for jungle, rice paddies, a serious wellness scene and a 60 to 90 minute drive from the airport.
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
Sayan · Ubud · 60 min from airport
The single best luxury hotel on Bali, and arguably the best luxury hotel in Southeast Asia under $1,000 per night. The arrival is the most dramatic in Bali: you cross a pedestrian bridge over the Ayung River and descend into the lobby, which sits inside a rice bowl shaped structure with a rooftop lily pond. Villas terrace down the river valley with private plunge pools and uninterrupted jungle views. The Sacred River Spa is rated by Tripadvisor as the best spa in Bali. Couples on Booking.com rate the property 9.6, an unusually high score for a 60 villa resort.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- 60 minute drive from airport plus 15 from central Ubud
- Some villas involve significant steps and uphill walks
- Children's club is good but the property feels grown up
- Rates rise sharply during July, August and Christmas
"The view was exceptional. The food was the best in Bali. The staff welcomed us with a beautiful smile every morning. Nothing beats Four Seasons Sayan."
— Booking.com review · March 2026
Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Kedewatan · Ubud · 60 min from airport
Five minutes down the road from Four Seasons Sayan and the natural alternative. Mandapa is the only Ritz Carlton Reserve property in Indonesia, which means dedicated butler service, only 60 villas, and dining at Kubu, where each table is set inside an individual bamboo cocoon overlooking the river. Honest take: the experience is comparable to Four Seasons but the architecture and arrival are not quite as memorable. What Mandapa wins on is dining and the wellness programme, which goes deeper into Balinese traditional healing than any peer property. Marriott Bonvoy points stays apply, as do Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts credits worth $400 plus per booking.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Pool and villa positions less dramatic than Sayan
- Some villa categories sit further from the river
- Dining prices are noticeably higher than peers
- 15 minute drive from central Ubud restaurants
"Stunning property. The tasting menu dinner at Kubu was unforgettable. Our butler Made arranged everything from spa to airport transfer without us asking twice. Worth every dollar."

Capella Ubud, Bali
Keliki · Tegalalang · 75 min from airport
The most original luxury concept in Bali and one of the most distinctive properties in Southeast Asia. Designer Bill Bensley reimagined the colonial era explorer's camp as a 23 tent luxury retreat hidden in the Keliki Valley north of Ubud. Each tent has a salt water plunge pool, a copper bath, and a duffel bag of camp essentials waiting at arrival. The premise sounds gimmicky and is not. Bensley's level of detail across each tent's individual theme is the equal of any boutique hotel in Asia. Food at Api Jiwa is excellent. Auriga Wellness operates on lunar cycles. Be aware that the camp sits on steep terrain and is not recommended for guests under 6.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- 75 minute drive from airport, 25 from central Ubud
- Steep terrain, not suitable for children under 6
- Highest entry rate of any Ubud property on this list
- Daily evening canapé ritual is not skippable
"Truly the most special place we have ever stayed. The attention to detail across the camp, the cocktail hour, the service. Made my fiftieth birthday into something I will never forget."
— Booking.com review · January 2026
The benchmark wellness retreat in Asia. COMO Shambhala is less a hotel and more a structured wellness programme that happens to have luxury accommodation. Most guests book one of the multi night Resident Programmes (3, 5, 7 or 14 days) which include daily yoga, treatments, consultations and a tailored fitness regime. The vegetarian forward menus from COMO Cuisine are some of the best healthy food in Asia. Children under 12 are not permitted, which is unusual in Bali and signals what kind of trip this is. If you book it expecting a beach holiday you will be confused. Book it expecting a serious wellness reset and you will get exactly that.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Not a leisure hotel, best for purpose driven stays
- Alcohol available but the culture discourages it
- Some find the structured programme too intense
- Limited drop in dining for non residents
"Came for a five day Cleanse programme. Left feeling like a different person. The fitness consultant tailored every day to my needs. Food was incredible without ever feeling like diet food."
— Booking.com review · February 2026
Bali's best value true luxury option in Ubud, and one of the few remaining family owned five star properties on the island. The 25 villa boutique sits in the Petulu valley with views that genuinely rival Four Seasons Sayan for half the price. The property is older than its competitors (opened 2003) and the architecture is conservative rather than dramatic, but the service culture has had two decades to mature. The pool deck at the Cascades restaurant is famously the photo every Ubud Instagram features. Avoid villas in the lower row, which have less impressive valley views.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Architecture is conservative compared to peers
- Lower row villas have weaker views
- Only 25 villas, books out months ahead in peak
- 20 minute drive from central Ubud restaurants
"Stayed at Four Seasons twice before and tried Viceroy on a friend's recommendation. The valley view from the infinity pool is no joke. Half the price and arguably a better experience."
— Tripadvisor review · December 2025
Founded by jewellery designer John Hardy and his wife Cynthia, Bambu Indah pioneered the bamboo architecture luxury concept in Bali decades before it became fashionable. The 11 antique Javanese houses have been rebuilt on a hillside above the Ayung River with thoughtful additions like the natural swimming pool filtered through plants rather than chlorine. The vibe is intellectual rather than glamorous. You will meet textile designers, conservationists and architecture students at breakfast. If you want a Bali experience that feels like staying in a private home with hotel service, this is the only choice in this price band.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Not all rooms have air conditioning
- Service is warmly informal rather than polished
- Limited dining versus larger neighbours
- Style is rustic luxury, not gleaming five star
"Bali at its most authentic. The antique houses feel like genuine homes rather than hotel rooms. The natural pool was the most beautiful place I have ever swum. Already booked to return."

Three luxury hotels on the Uluwatu cliffs
Uluwatu is the dramatic alternative to Ubud. Limestone cliffs falling 100 metres into the Indian Ocean, the most reliable surf in Bali, and a coastline that still feels wild. Drive time from the airport is the best on the island at 25 to 40 minutes.
Bvlgari Resort Bali
Pecatu · Uluwatu · 30 min from airport
The highest rated luxury hotel in Bali by Booking.com guests, with a 9.7 rating across thousands of reviews. Set on a 100 metre cliff in Pecatu with uninterrupted views over the Indian Ocean, the Bvlgari operates the only Italian fine dining restaurant in Bali worth flying for: Il Ristorante Luca Fantin. The villas feel less Balinese and more like a private Mediterranean estate, with traditional Balinese carving as accent rather than dominant style. Couples specifically rate it 9.7. The arrival sequence, the cliff edge infinity pool and the sunset cocktails at Sangkar all rank among the best of any resort in Asia.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Highest entry rate of any property on this list
- Beach access is via funicular and limited at low tide
- Italian dining premium is real, Sangkar is not cheap either
- Some find the European vibe inauthentic for Bali
"Possibly my favourite resort I have ever stayed at. The villa, the staff, the food at Luca Fantin. The sunset at Sangkar. We were in the Maldives the week after and Bvlgari was the better experience."
— Booking.com review · February 2026
Alila Villas Uluwatu
Pecatu · Uluwatu · 30 min from airport
Designed by Singapore's WOHA architects, Alila Villas Uluwatu won the World Architecture Festival's Best Hotel award when it opened and continues to feature in serious architecture journals. The villas sit terraced down the cliff with private infinity pools that read into the horizon line of the ocean. Hyatt acquired Alila in 2019, which means Hyatt Globalist members can use suite upgrade certificates here and the property accepts World of Hyatt points stays. The Cire restaurant balances Indonesian and European cuisine well. The arrival lobby with its grass clad roof is one of the great hospitality entrances anywhere.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Property is exposed, afternoon winds can be strong
- Beach access requires a 15 minute walk or shuttle
- Dining options narrower than larger peer resorts
- Some original villas now feel architecturally dated
"Stayed at Bvlgari and Alila on the same trip. Bvlgari is more polished and luxurious. Alila is the more interesting building. If you care about design at all, the lobby alone justifies it."
— Tripadvisor review · November 2025
Six Senses Uluwatu
Uluwatu · 30 min from airport
The most family friendly of the three Uluwatu cliff properties and the one with the most resort programming. Six Senses Uluwatu has a serious sustainability ethos backed by visible practices: filtered water bottles in every villa, an Earth Lab demonstrating composting and waste reduction, and substantial sourcing from on island producers. The Cliff Pool Lounge is the property's signature image. Some find the Six Senses brand earnestness exhausting; others love it. The Sky Pool villas with their cliff edge plunge pools justify the entry price. Less architecturally distinctive than Alila or Bvlgari, but more practical as a 7 day base.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Less architecturally distinctive than peer cliff hotels
- 103 villas means it can feel busier than Alila or Bvlgari
- Six Senses wellness focus heavily promoted at check in
- Some standard villas have limited cliff views
"Took the family for ten days. Service was outstanding, kids club kept the children genuinely engaged, and we ate at every restaurant on property without repeating. The Sky Pool villas are worth the upgrade."

Two luxury hotels in Seminyak
Seminyak is Bali's social capital. Beach clubs, designer shopping, the strongest restaurant scene on the island, and direct access to a long stretch of black sand beach. Choose Seminyak when nightlife and dining matter more than seclusion.
The original Seminyak luxury hotel, opened in 1997 and still the best in its category despite waves of newer competitors. Every accommodation is a suite, the location is right on Seminyak Beach (the right side, north of the riskier surf zones), and the property has a famous afternoon high tea on the deck overlooking the Indian Ocean. The Legian's sister property The Club at The Legian on the same beach offers a villa format if you want more space. Walkable to Ku De Ta, Potato Head Beach Club and the Seminyak dining strip. The 25 year old property has been continuously updated and feels current rather than dated.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Seminyak is busier than it was a decade ago
- Beach can have rough surf, swim with caution
- Traffic to and from Seminyak is heavy at peak hours
- Pool is smaller than peer resorts
"The afternoon high tea is one of those experiences you never forget. Watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean from the deck with proper champagne and Indonesian sweets. Worth booking just for that."
— Booking.com review · January 2026
The bigger, brasher, younger sister of The Legian. W Bali Seminyak sits at the north end of Seminyak Beach with 237 rooms across a series of design forward buildings and a famously photographed pool that runs straight to the sand. The crowd skews younger and louder than peer luxury properties. That is the appeal for some and the dealbreaker for others. Strong choice if you want a Bali stay that includes pool day energy, beach club access at WooBar, and Marriott Bonvoy points. Less suitable if you want a quiet, sophisticated Bali experience.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- 237 rooms means it can feel crowded
- Pool scene volume increases noticeably midday
- Service tier below The Legian or Bvlgari
- Less suitable for travellers seeking quiet luxury
"Great if you want the social scene. The pool at WooBar is unmatched in Seminyak. Be ready for it to be busy and loud during the day. We loved every minute, but it is not a quiet escape."

Three luxury hotels in Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is a gated resort peninsula on the south coast, 20 minutes from the airport. Calm, swimmable beaches, the most family friendly infrastructure in Bali, and a quieter atmosphere than the west coast. The best choice for first time visitors with children.
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali
Sawangan · Nusa Dua · 25 min from airport
The best single family resort in Bali. The Ritz Carlton Bali sits on Sawangan Beach (different and quieter than the main Nusa Dua beach) with one of the largest beach frontages of any Bali resort, a 6,000 square metre spa, multiple pools, and a kids club that genuinely entertains children rather than babysits them. The 313 rooms and villas span Cliff villas, Ocean Cliff villas (the upgrade you want) and Sky villas. The lobby with its open air design and koi pond is the photo every family travel blogger features. Marriott Bonvoy points stays accepted, including 7 night for 5 promotions during off peak.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- 313 rooms means scale rather than intimacy
- Garden view rooms have weaker setting than ocean
- Nusa Dua can feel like an enclosed resort zone
- Dining is good but not Bvlgari or Capella level
"Took two children aged 6 and 9. The Ritz Kids programme was so good they barely wanted to leave. The Ocean Cliff villa pool was the highlight of the trip for the adults. Will absolutely return."
— Booking.com review · April 2026
The St. Regis Bali Resort
Nusa Dua Beach · 25 min from airport
The Nusa Dua property that delivers the St Regis Butler service tradition imported from New York. Every villa has a dedicated butler who handles everything from unpacking to in villa dining service. The signature Lagoon Villas have direct lagoon pool access from the deck, which is the photograph this property is known for. The St Regis sits on the main Nusa Dua beach, which is calmer and more swimmable than Seminyak or Canggu. Marriott Bonvoy integration applies. The Boneka restaurant serves the most extensive Sunday brunch in Bali, which is worth doing once even as a non guest.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- The Lagoon Villas premium is real ($400+/night more)
- Service style is more formal than Bali standard
- Architecture is conservative, not distinctive
- Boneka brunch books out 2 to 3 weeks ahead
"Our butler Made was outstanding. He handled in villa dining, arranged spa appointments, and even organised a private boat to Nusa Penida. The Lagoon Villa with direct pool access was worth every dollar."
— Booking.com review · January 2026
The Apurva Kempinski Bali
Nusa Dua · 25 min from airport
The largest single luxury resort in Nusa Dua and one of the strongest value plays in this category. The Apurva Kempinski hosted the 2022 G20 Summit, which gives some sense of the security and infrastructure scale. The architecture is dramatic: an amphitheatre style descent down to Nusa Dua Beach with multi level pools cascading through the property. Six restaurants on site, including the impressive Koral underwater restaurant. The room categories include Cliff suites and Grand Deluxe Lagoon rooms with direct lagoon pool access at materially lower rates than St Regis. Strong value for families who want resort scale without the Ritz Carlton price.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- 475 rooms means it can feel busy in peak season
- Service tier below Ritz Carlton or St Regis
- Distinct Indonesian Hindu aesthetic, not minimalist
- Buffet breakfast queues during high occupancy
"The most cinematic resort entrance I have ever seen. The descent down through the multi level pools to the beach was something my children talked about for months afterwards. Koral was the dining highlight."

One luxury hotel in Canggu
Canggu is the youngest, most creative corner of Bali. Surf breaks, design hotels, plant based restaurants and a digital nomad scene that has matured into one of Asia's most interesting small towns.
The only true luxury hotel on Echo Beach and the natural choice if you want a Canggu base with proper service. COMO Uma Canggu pairs the beachfront pool deck (some of the best surf watching real estate in Bali) with the COMO Shambhala spa programme transplanted from Ubud. Penthouses with rooftop pools are the upgrade worth considering. The surf school on property runs daily lessons for all levels on Echo Beach right outside. Canggu itself has changed enormously in the past 5 years and is now louder, busier, and more nomad heavy than it was. COMO Uma Canggu functions as a quiet oasis from that energy when you want it.
Why You Will Love It
Worth Knowing
- Canggu traffic is the worst in southern Bali
- Echo Beach surf is intermediate to advanced
- Cafe scene around the hotel can be loud
- Some entry rooms have limited natural light
"Found the sweet spot of Canggu without the chaos. Surf in the morning, COMO Shambhala treatments in the afternoon, dinner at one of the dozen great restaurants within 10 min walk. Bali at its best."
— Booking.com review · February 2026
Which Bali luxury hotel should you book?
If you can only book one, book Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan in Ubud. For the best value with comparable luxury, COMO Uma Canggu or The Apurva Kempinski Bali deliver more than their nightly rate suggests. For honeymooners, Capella Ubud is the country's strongest couples experience. For families, the Ritz Carlton Bali in Nusa Dua is the most complete option in Southeast Asia. For dramatic coastal luxury, Bvlgari Resort Bali on the Uluwatu cliffs is unmatched.

Frequently Asked Questions
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan in Ubud is the best overall luxury hotel in Bali for 2026, with a 9.6 Booking.com rating and rates from $724 per night. Bvlgari Resort Bali in Uluwatu is the highest rated property at 9.7 with rates from $1,202. The single best choice depends on whether you want jungle (Ubud), cliff (Uluwatu) or beach (Seminyak/Canggu).
First time Bali visitors with 5 to 7 nights should split between Ubud (3 nights, for jungle, rice paddies, wellness) and either Uluwatu or Seminyak (3 to 4 nights, for beach and dramatic coastal views). Ubud as a single base misses the beach. Nusa Dua as a single base misses the cultural depth. The split itinerary gives you both versions of Bali in one trip.
The best months to visit Bali are May, June and September. These months sit inside the dry season with reliable weather but outside peak European and Australian school holidays. Rates are 25 to 40 percent below July and August peak. The very best week of the year for value is the first week of May, when hotels are quietest just before the European summer wave arrives.
Bali is genuinely quietest in early February (after the Chinese New Year wave passes), late April through early May (before peak season starts), and the first three weeks of November. These windows offer the best combination of low crowds and acceptable weather. Avoid mid-July through mid-August (European summer), the first two weeks of January (Australian summer holidays) and Chinese New Year week entirely.
Yes. Bali's rainy season (November through March) does not shut the island down. Most rain falls in short, heavy afternoon bursts of 30 to 60 minutes, with mornings and evenings typically dry. The Bukit Peninsula (Uluwatu, Nusa Dua) receives roughly half the rainfall of Ubud and the north because of Mount Agung's rain shadow. The trade off is occasional rough surf, beach debris on west coast beaches, and higher humidity.
Mid tier luxury hotels in Bali cost $400 to $900 per night in 2026, including Alila Villas Uluwatu, Viceroy Bali, Apurva Kempinski and W Bali Seminyak. Top tier luxury runs $900 to $1,500 per night for Four Seasons Sayan, Mandapa, and St Regis. Ultra luxury at Bvlgari Resort Bali and Capella Ubud runs $1,200 to $2,500 per night. Bali luxury pricing is roughly half of comparable Maldives properties.
Capella Ubud is the best Bali luxury hotel for honeymoons, with only 23 tents, private salt water pools at every villa and a no children under six policy that protects intimacy. Bvlgari Resort Bali wins for couples wanting dramatic clifftop views and Italian fine dining. Mandapa a Ritz Carlton Reserve delivers strong honeymoon programming with private dining at Kubu and dedicated butler service.
The Ritz Carlton Bali in Nusa Dua is the best Bali luxury hotel for families, with the largest Ritz Kids programme in Southeast Asia, calm Sawangan Beach access and Ocean Cliff villas with private plunge pools. The St Regis Bali Resort and Six Senses Uluwatu also rank strongly for families. Avoid Capella Ubud and COMO Shambhala Estate, both of which restrict children.
Nyepi is the Balinese New Year, a 24 hour island wide silent retreat day in March. Nyepi 2027 falls on March 8. During Nyepi the airport closes completely (no flights in or out for 24 hours), no one is permitted outside their hotel or villa, and lights and noise are restricted across the entire island. If you are flying in or out on Nyepi or the day immediately after, change your dates. If you are already on the island it becomes one of the most unusual cultural experiences in Asia.
Most well planned luxury Bali trips run 7 to 10 nights split across two regions: 3 to 4 nights in Ubud for jungle and culture, then 3 to 4 nights at the beach or cliff. Single region stays under 5 nights work for short escapes but miss what makes Bali distinctive. Most luxury resorts offer fourth night free or 25 to 30 percent discounts on stays of 7 plus nights, so the 7 night itinerary is often the best value choice.
Yes, several major Bali luxury hotels accept loyalty programme points. Marriott Bonvoy points work at Mandapa, the Ritz Carlton Bali, St Regis Bali Resort and W Bali Seminyak. World of Hyatt accepts points at Alila Villas Uluwatu. Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts benefits apply at Mandapa, Four Seasons Sayan, Bvlgari Resort Bali and several others, typically including a $100 to $400 property credit, daily breakfast and complimentary fourth night.
