Best US Credit Cards for Luxury Hotel Travellers 2026

Why Your Credit Card Matters More Than Your Hotel Booking

Two guests check in to the same Four Seasons suite. One pays rack rate and sits in the terminal before the flight. The other pays the same rack rate but receives a complimentary room upgrade, daily breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, guaranteed 4pm late checkout, and spent two hours before boarding in a private lounge. The difference? A single credit card.

We reviewed every premium travel card available in the US and narrowed it to the five that genuinely matter for someone who stays at luxury hotels, flies business or first class, and wants their card to work as hard as they do. This is not a points optimisation guide. This is about which cards deliver real, tangible value.

How We Ranked These Cards: We weighted luxury hotel benefits (upgrades, breakfast, late checkout), airport lounge access (network size, quality, guest policies), effective annual cost (fee minus usable credits), and transfer partner value (ability to book aspirational stays through point transfers).

All fee, benefit, and earn rate information is current as of April 2026 and sourced directly from each card issuer's website. Links go directly to the card issuer, not through affiliate tracking.

    American Express Gold

    Best DiningFee: $325/yrEffective: $85*
    Learn More →

The Amex Gold does not have lounge access or hotel status, but for luxury travellers who eat well, this card earns points faster than any other in categories that matter most. 4x on restaurants worldwide and US supermarkets means a couple spending $1,500/mo on dining earns over 110,000 MR points per year from those categories alone. Those points transfer to the same 20+ partners as the Platinum. The real play: pair the Gold for everyday spending with the Platinum for hotels and lounges. Both pool into the same Membership Rewards account.

🍽️ 4x restaurants worldwide🛒 4x US supermarkets (up to $25K/yr)✈️ 3x flights booked direct🔄 Same 20+ transfer partners as Platinum💰 $325/yr (lowest fee on this list)🤝 Pairs perfectly with Amex Platinum

    Strengths

    • 4x on restaurants and groceries is the highest earn rate
    • Same 20+ transfer partners as Platinum (pool points together)
    • $325 annual fee is very reasonable
    • $120 dining + $120 Uber credits offset much of fee
    • 3x on flights is strong for a mid-tier card
    • 60K welcome bonus is generous

    Limitations

    • No lounge access whatsoever
    • No hotel elite status
    • Monthly dining credits limited to specific partners
    • Not standalone luxury travel card

You receive one free weekend night certificate annually (valid up to 150K pts/night properties like Waldorf Astoria Maldives) and $400 in resort credits. Credit Card FAQ

The American Express Platinum ($895/yr) provides access to the most lounges globally with 1,550+ locations including Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs, Priority Pass, and Escape Lounges. For the best value lounge card, the Capital One Venture X ($395/yr) offers 1,300+ lounges at half the price. For travelling with a partner, the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($795/yr) is the only premium card with two free guests at its own lounges.

For luxury hotel travellers, yes. The $600 Fine Hotels and Resorts credit alone covers more than two-thirds of the annual fee. When you book through FHR at properties like Four Seasons, Aman, or Rosewood, you receive complimentary room upgrades, daily breakfast for two, $100+ property credits, and guaranteed 4pm late checkout. The effective cost for luxury travellers who use even half the credits is near zero.

It depends on your priorities. Amex Platinum wins on total lounge count (1,550+ vs 1,300+), hotel credit size ($600 FHR vs $500 Edit), and automatic hotel status. Chase Sapphire Reserve wins on guest access (2 free guests), hotel transfer partners (Hyatt), earn rates (8x Chase Travel), and annual fee ($795 vs $895). For couples, Chase wins. For solo luxury travellers, Amex wins.

The Amex Platinum provides complimentary room upgrades at 2,500+ Fine Hotels and Resorts properties. The Chase Sapphire Reserve offers upgrades at The Edit properties. The Hilton Aspire provides automatic Diamond status which includes suite upgrades at all Hilton properties worldwide.

Yes. Many experienced luxury travellers carry both. The combined annual fee ($895 + $795 = $1,690) sounds high, but the combined credits and benefits exceed $7,000 in annual value for frequent luxury travellers.
