    Cheval Blanc Randheli is one of the most polished resorts in the Maldives and, for couples and families who value service, design and French food over barefoot rusticity, it is worth the money. Its 46 villas in Noonu Atoll all have a 12.5 metre private pool, the Guerlain spa sits on its own island, and the kids club is free from age three. Expect from about US$2,300 a night in low season, plus taxes and a seaplane transfer of roughly US$1,100 to US$1,900 per adult.

    Verdict Cheval Blanc Randheli is the Maldives resort to book if you want Paris level service and serious food on a private island, as long as you accept that almost nothing beyond the villa is included.

    What Cheval Blanc Randheli is like

    Cheval Blanc is the hotel brand of LVMH, the group behind Louis Vuitton and Dior, and Randheli was its second property after Courchevel. It opened in 2013 in Noonu Atoll, a quieter northern atoll that now also holds Soneva Jani, and it holds both three Michelin Keys, the guide's top hotel award, and a Forbes Travel Guide Five Star rating.

    The resort covers six islands. Three are joined by bridges and hold the villas, restaurants and main pool; the spa, the tennis island and a yoga island (Maakurandhoo) are reached by boat. Belgian architect Jean Michel Gathy used whitewashed walls, very high thatched ceilings and bursts of the brand's signature yellow. Commissioned art by Jean Michel Othoniel and Vincent Beaurin runs throughout.

    What guests talk about most is the service. Every villa has a dedicated Majordome, the Cheval Blanc word for butler, and the resort holds a 4.9 out of 5 Tripadvisor average from more than 350 reviews, with recent guests describing staff who anticipate needs without hovering.

    This is not a shoes off hideaway in the Soneva style. Evenings carry an "Island Chic" dress code and the feel is closer to a grand French hotel moved to the equator.

    All 46 villas have the same core layout: a large living room, a bedroom with a double dressing room, a bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a bathtub, and a deck with a 12.5 metre infinity pool. What changes is the setting. Sources disagree on size: the official site lists the one bedroom overwater villas at 220 square metres, while some agents and older reviews quote 240. We use the official figures.

    The main complaint about the overwater villas in detailed reviews is that some face each other without screening. The Horizon Villa avoids this entirely, and the Island Villas are shielded by gardens.

    Which villa to book

    Couples on a first visit: the Water Villa. It is the cheapest way in and delivers the postcard ocean view. If budget allows, fight for the Horizon Villa: there is only one, with nothing in front of it but the Indian Ocean.

    Honeymooners: Horizon Villa first, Lagoon Villa second for calmer water off the deck.

    Families with children under eight: a one or two bedroom Island Villa. A beach at the door beats an overwater deck when toddlers are around.

    Families with teenagers or two couples: the two bedroom Garden Water Villa or Lagoon Garden Villa, each bedroom with its own bathroom.

    Light sleepers: avoid villas closest to the seaplane landing area near the main island. Several reviewers mention early morning plane noise.

    Food and drink

    Randheli has five restaurants and three bars, and food is a real reason to choose it. Opening days rotate, so plan around them.

    The White is the main restaurant, a brasserie style room by the pool serving breakfast (7am to 11am), lunch and dinner every day. Guests single out the breakfast pastries again and again.

    Le 1947 is the signature restaurant, named after the celebrated 1947 vintage of Château Cheval Blanc. It serves an 11 course French tasting menu with Maldivian touches in a garden pavilion, and the official site currently lists dinner on Tuesday and Wednesday only, so book it on arrival. Past guests reported the menu at around US$340 per person before taxes in 2022.

    Deelani sits over the water and cooks food from the Italian Riviera for lunch and dinner daily.

    Diptyque serves Japanese and East Asian food for dinner, including a teppanyaki counter, and opens Friday to Monday. Reviews here are more mixed than for the other restaurants, mainly on value.

    The Spa Bar on the spa island offers juices and light, healthy plates from midday.

    Add La Table de Partage for shared feasts, a glass walled Wine Museum and Cigar Lounge, The White Bar (10am to midnight), and Carte Blanche, the round the clock dine anywhere service covering sandbank picnics and beach dinners.

    Spa, kids club and activities

    The Guerlain spa island

    Cheval Blanc Spa occupies its own island, a few minutes by traditional dhoni from the main island. Treatments use Guerlain products, and reviews describe four single and two double treatment villas plus a Leonor Greyl hair salon. The upside is total calm; the downside is a boat ride for every appointment and the occasional seaplane overhead.

    Le Carrousel kids club and Le Paddock teens club

    Le Carrousel is one of the strongest kids clubs in the Maldives: free, open daily 10am to 6pm, and taking children from age three, younger than many rivals. It has its own pool with water slides and a splash area, and activities range from crab hunting to cinema nights. Teenagers get Le Paddock, with pool, table football, air hockey and games consoles. Current offers include "kids stay and dine free" periods (one agent lists 8 January to 30 September 2026 with a four night minimum), so ask when booking.

    Everything else

    There is a tennis island with two courts and a resident coach, a Technogym equipped fitness centre with Pilates and spinning rooms, a jungle boot camp, and the Maldives' only surf simulator. Water sports include snorkelling, diving, jet skis, eFoils, kayaks and sunset dhoni cruises. Reviewers note the central lagoon has few fish, so book reef trips for good snorkelling.

    What Cheval Blanc Randheli costs

    Prices move a lot with season and villa. The table shows indicative nightly rates for two people before taxes and service. They are our estimates within published 2026 agent ranges (US$2,268 to US$6,856 for a Water Villa, US$3,116 to US$8,586 for an Island Villa), cross checked with Tripadvisor and Kayak, which show roughly US$2,450 to US$5,300 for entry villas.     Price drivers: season, villa position (Horizon and Island Villas cost more) and length of stay, with "stay seven, pay five" style offers appearing often.

    Taxes and fees. Add a 10% service charge and 17% tourism GST (the rate rose from 16% on 1 July 2025), together about 27% on everything, plus the Maldives green tax of US$12 per person per night. A US$3,000 night therefore costs about US$3,834 once charges are added.

    Meal plans. We could not find a published all inclusive plan. Rates are generally room only or with breakfast, so budget for lunch and dinner. As a guide, the Le 1947 tasting menu was around US$340 per person before taxes in 2022; reviewers often call extras the weak point on value.

    Transfers. Seaplane costs, as last published, are per adult return and before 27% taxes: about US$1,085 on the regular shared Trans Maldivian Airways seaplane, about US$1,910 on the shared Cheval Blanc branded seaplane, and about US$15,040 per aircraft for a private charter. Children aged 2 to 11 pay half. These figures date from 2022 to 2024 and may have risen.

    Booking perks. Booking through a Virtuoso agent or Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts usually adds daily breakfast, a resort credit and an upgrade when available. Check the official site for direct offers too.

    Getting there: the seaplane lounge and transfer

    Flights land at Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé, where staff escort you to the resort's private seaplane terminal lounge, among the best in the country, with curtained private seating areas, a children's playroom, showers, VIP rooms and a terrace over the seaplane docks.

    From there, the flight north to Randheli takes about 40 minutes. The regular shared seaplane may stop at other resorts; the eight seat Cheval Blanc seaplane, with leather VIP seating, flies direct. Seaplanes only operate in daylight, with arrivals roughly between 6am and 3:30pm, so a late evening international arrival means a night in Malé. Luggage is limited to 20 kg checked and 5 kg hand baggage per person on the shared services.

    Private jet travellers can instead fly into Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll, then take a 25 minute speedboat to the island.

    Best time to go

    The dry northeast monsoon season, from December to April, brings the calmest seas, the most sun and the highest prices. January to March is the sweet spot for weather.     The honest drawbacks

    • Extras are expensive. Food, drinks, activities and transfers all sit outside the room rate and add up fast.
    • Seaplane noise. Villas near the main island hear early morning seaplanes.
    • Man made beaches. Four of the six islands were built up, and some reviewers find the sand rougher and a sea wall visible at low tide on the southern lagoon.
    • Overwater privacy. Some water villas look onto their neighbours.
    • Mosquitoes and plankton. A few guests mention mosquitoes in garden areas and seasonal plankton affecting snorkelling.

    Who should book and who should not

    Book Cheval Blanc Randheli if you value world class service, French cooking and striking design, you travel with children aged 3 to 12, or you want a honeymoon where every detail is handled.

    Look elsewhere if you want all inclusive pricing, a castaway feel, a fish filled house reef or playful extras like water slides.

    Cheval Blanc Randheli vs Soneva Jani

    Soneva Jani is the obvious rival, just 15 minutes by boat in the same atoll. It sits in a 5.6 km lagoon around Medhufaru island and has around 60 villas, many with retractable bedroom roofs and some with water slides into the lagoon.
