In one paragraph. Tokyo runs on omotenashi, the Japanese idea that good service anticipates rather than performs. I rate 10 hotels here at $600 to $1,800 a night, from [Aman Tokyo](https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-101801746-17288959?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.booking.com%2Fhotel%2Fjp%2Faman-tokyo.html) on the 33rd floor to the older Park Hyatt in Shinjuku. Spring and autumn are the two windows worth planning around.

## Why Tokyo Has Become the World's Most Compelling Luxury Destination

Tokyo operates at a frequency unlike any other city. It has more Michelin stars than any metropolitan area on earth, over 200 as of the most recent guide, a service culture rooted in the Japanese concept of omotenashi (selfless, anticipatory hospitality), and an architectural confidence that produces hotel buildings capable of competing with the finest anywhere in the world. The result is a luxury hotel tier that can legitimately claim to set the global standard for what urban luxury should be.

Aman Tokyo, which opened in 2014 above the Otemachi business district in a quiet collaboration with the Imperial Palace Gardens below, has become the lens through which other urban luxury hotels are now judged. The way it integrates Japanese spatial philosophy with contemporary comfort, large, serene rooms; a 30-metre swimming pool with city views; a lobby that achieves silence in the centre of one of the world's noisiest cities, has influenced hotel design worldwide in ways that are now visible from Mayfair to Manhattan.

I have reviewed 10 Tokyo properties across Otemachi, Shinjuku, Ginza, Marunouchi and the newer Toranomon district. Below are my honest ratings, the live Booking.com rates I checked, and the detail you need to choose.

#1 Otemachi, Tokyo

### 1\. Aman Tokyo

From $1,800+ a night, checked April 2026

Aman Tokyo occupies the top six floors of the Otemachi Tower in Tokyo's central business district, and arrives at the concept of the urban luxury hotel with the same clarity of vision that the brand applies to its desert camps and ocean islands. The rooms are extraordinary in scale, the smallest is 86 square metres, making it among the largest standard rooms in Tokyo, and designed with a Japanese spatial intelligence that creates genuine calm: washi paper shoji screens, hinoki wood bathtubs, a muted palette of sand, charcoal and cream that allows the city panorama to be the primary visual experience. The windows of the Imperial Suite look directly across the Imperial Palace Gardens to the historic moat, with Mount Fuji visible on clear winter mornings. The Aman Spa, on the sixth floor, contains a 30-metre swimming pool positioned at the edge of the building's glass facade, you swim through the Tokyo skyline at 150 metres above street level. The Arva restaurant serves Italian cuisine that would succeed in any major city, though it is the Japanese breakfast, miso soup, grilled fish, rice, pickles and tofu, that most guests cite as a defining moment of the stay. The omotenashi service is real and deeply understood here: your requirements are anticipated rather than simply fulfilled, and the difference between the two is the entire difference between Aman Tokyo and every other hotel in the city.

#2 Shinjuku, Tokyo

### 2\. Park Hyatt Tokyo

From $800+ a night, checked April 2026

The Park Hyatt Tokyo has had an unusual advantage over its competitors since 2003: a film that made it the most famous hotel room in the world without the hotel having to do anything but be itself. Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation placed Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in the glass-and-grey environment of Shinjuku's Park Hyatt, and the 41st-floor rooms, their floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Shinjuku skyscraper cluster against the distant mountains, became the cinematic shorthand for a specific kind of beautiful urban dislocation. The film made the Park Hyatt aspirational for a generation of travellers who had not yet visited Tokyo. The New York Bar, on the 52nd floor, remains one of the great hotel bar experiences in the world, not for the cocktails (though they are excellent) but for the panoramic night view of Shinjuku that extends to the Tokyo Bay on a clear evening. The 25-metre pool, lit from below in the quiet of the hotel's spa level, is among the most beautiful hotel pools in Asia. The rooms are large by Tokyo standards and maintain the aesthetic quality that Kenzo Tange's original design established: dark wood, warm leather, the Tokyo skyline as the primary artwork. The hotel has maintained its standard across three decades while the city has transformed around it.

### 3\. The Peninsula Tokyo

From $900+ a night, checked April 2026

The Peninsula Tokyo occupies one of the finest hotel positions in Asia: looking across the intersection of the Imperial Palace gardens, the Hibiya Park and the Ginza shopping district simultaneously, with Fuji occasionally visible on the horizon. The 314 rooms and suites are designed with the Peninsula brand's characteristic combination of technological sophistication and classical elegance, the bedside control panels that manage every room system, the heated marble bathroom floors, the pre-programmed preferences that make the technology invisible. The lobby, with its high ceilings and warm amber lighting, manages to feel grand without feeling cold. The rooftop Peter bar and restaurant, on the 24th floor, produces some of the finest bar food in Tokyo, the oyster selection and cocktail programme alone justify the elevator ride. The Peninsula Academy offers guests structured introductions to Japanese cultural experiences: tea ceremony, ikebana arrangement, wagashi making, Noh theatre, activities that transform what might otherwise be tourism into genuine cultural engagement. The spa and pool level, with its 20-metre heated pool, is managed with the same meticulous attention to detail that characterises the rest of the property.

#4 Otemachi, Tokyo

### 4\. Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi

From $700+ a night, checked April 2026

The Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi opened in 2020 and immediately established itself as the most contemporary interpretation of Japanese luxury hospitality in the city's premium tier. Set in the Otemachi One tower, with direct access to the Imperial Palace East Gardens, the hotel occupies the upper floors of a building whose base is given over to premium retail and the Michelin-starred Azabu Sabo restaurant. The 190 rooms are the largest of any Four Seasons property in Japan, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the Imperial Palace moat, Tokyo Station and, on a clear day, a white triangle of Fuji above the western horizon. The 39th-floor Cloud Bar and its terrace, a rare outdoor space at this elevation in Tokyo, attract guests and non-guests who understand that a glass of sake with this view at sunset is among the city's genuinely irreplaceable experiences. The spa programme integrates Japanese therapeutic traditions with Four Seasons' international wellness expertise in a setting of exceptional beauty: the 20-metre pool is positioned at the building's glass edge, an experience that parallels and consciously references Aman Tokyo a few blocks away. Both hotels are outstanding; the Four Seasons is the more assertively contemporary of the two.

#5 Ginza, Tokyo

### 5\. Bulgari Hotel Tokyo

From $1,500+ a night, checked April 2026

The Bulgari Hotel Tokyo, which opened in 2023 in the Ginza Tower, brings the jewellery house's Roman luxury code to Japan and, remarkably, produces something entirely successful in the translation. The 98 rooms on floors 40 to 43 are designed with Bulgari's characteristic black, gold and travertine palette, applying Italian craftsmanship to materials at a level of precision that the Japanese design context both demands and appreciates. The location in Ginza, Tokyo's most prestigious shopping district where Bulgari's flagship store occupies the same building, creates a coherence that feels less like brand extension and more like a natural habitat. Il Ristorante Niko Romito Tokyo, overseen by the three-Michelin-starred Italian chef, is one of the finest Italian restaurants in Asia, an ambitious claim in a city where the competition is extraordinary, but a justified one. Il Bar, on the 40th floor, draws a sophisticated Tokyo crowd for cocktails that use Japanese spirits and Italian liqueurs in preparations that could only happen in this particular intersection of cultures. The Bulgari Spa, smaller than the resort versions but deeply accomplished in its programme, uses the brand's beauty line alongside classical Italian treatments. For those who want the Bulgari experience in an Asian context, Tokyo is the finest expression.

#6 Nihonbashi, Tokyo

### 6\. Mandarin Oriental Tokyo

From $900+ a night, checked April 2026

The Mandarin Oriental Tokyo has occupied its position in the Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower since 2005 and established itself as the benchmark for traditional luxury in the city before Aman and the Four Seasons Otemachi arrived to offer more contemporary alternatives. The rooms on the 37th and 38th floors look out over the rooftops of central Tokyo in a panorama that extends from Tokyo Tower to Mount Fuji, a view that the hotel has been careful to protect by positioning every room and suite to maximise the sightline. The Mandarin Suite, at 340 square metres, is the largest hotel suite in central Tokyo. The spa programme, on the 37th floor, is the most internationally acclaimed of any hotel spa in Tokyo, a reputation built on the quality of its therapists, the range of its treatments and the extraordinary pool facilities. The five restaurants, including Sense (Cantonese), Tapas Molecular Bar and the Signature restaurant, maintain a standard that makes dining within the hotel a genuine Tokyo culinary destination rather than a convenience. The Nihonbashi location is less immediately glamorous than Otemachi or Ginza but has a historical authenticity, this is old Tokyo's merchant district, that gives the area a character the newer developments cannot replicate.

### 7\. Rosewood Tokyo

From $1,200+ a night, checked April 2026

Rosewood Tokyo, which opened in 2023, represents the Hong Kong-based luxury group's most ambitious project in Asia and one of the finest hotel debuts of the decade. The 189 rooms and suites are designed with an attention to Japanese craft traditions that goes beyond the superficial, handwoven textiles, lacquer details and ceramics produced by artisans the design team identified and commissioned specifically for the project. The Rosewood 'sense of place' philosophy is applied here with particular rigour: the hotel feels unmistakably Japanese and unmistakably Rosewood simultaneously, which is a genuinely difficult balance. The 15 dining and bar venues are excessive by the standards of any other hotel but justified by the quality of the individual offerings, the Sense omakase counter, the PIRA wood-fire restaurant and the Fukuro rooftop bar are each genuine Tokyo dining destinations independent of the accommodation. The Asaya Spa programme, integrating Japanese forest bathing philosophy with the brand's signature wellness approach, is the most complete new spa opening in Tokyo in five years. The Marunouchi location gives access to both the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station within walking distance.

#8 Toranomon Hills, Tokyo

### 8\. Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills

From $600+ a night, checked April 2026

The Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills has the most dramatic entry point of any hotel in the city: you arrive at ground level in the Toranomon Hills complex. Kengo Kuma and partners' mixed-use development that is rapidly becoming Tokyo's most exciting new neighbourhood, and ascend to the hotel lobby on the 47th floor, where the city spreads in every direction at an elevation that makes the experience immediately disorienting in the best sense. The rooms, occupying floors 47 to 52, have floor-to-ceiling windows that frame a panorama including Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Bay and, on clear days, Fuji. The rooftop terrace, one of the few open-air elevated spaces in Tokyo available to hotel guests, is the most compelling outdoor bar experience in the city, combining craft cocktails with a view that changes character from daytime urban panorama to the most extraordinary night cityscape. The service model, typical of the Andaz brand, is less formal than the traditional luxury tier: no check-in desk, personal hosts rather than uniformed reception staff, and a design aesthetic that references contemporary Tokyo street culture rather than classical Japanese tradition. At this price point, Andaz Tokyo offers more dramatic views per yen than any competitor.

### 9\. Conrad Tokyo

From $700+ a night, checked April 2026

The Conrad Tokyo occupies the upper levels of the Shiodome Media Tower in Shimbashi, with a position that faces east across Tokyo Bay, a view that the city's more celebrated Otemachi hotels cannot offer. The rooms look out across the Rainbow Bridge, the reclaimed islands of the bay and, on particularly clear days, the industrial beauty of Yokohama's waterfront to the south. The 290 rooms and suites are large by Tokyo standards, with the Deluxe Bay View category providing the full panorama at a price point that undercuts comparable offerings at Aman and Four Seasons significantly. The Cerise restaurant, on the 28th floor, is a genuinely impressive French fine-dining destination with bay views, one of Tokyo's better-kept hotel restaurant secrets. The pool and spa, positioned at the building's bay-facing edge, offer the most dramatic pool view in Tokyo outside of the 30-metre Aman. The Shimbashi location is practical for the business traveller and accessible for leisure, the Shimbashi station is immediately below and connects directly to Haneda Airport, while being quieter than Shinjuku or the Otemachi cluster.

#10 Kioicho, Tokyo

### 10\. The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho

From $600+ a night, checked April 2026

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho is the best kept secret of Tokyo's luxury hotel tier, an exceptional property in the quietly prestigious Kioicho district that delivers panoramic views, impeccable Japanese service and beautifully designed rooms at a price point that undercuts every hotel above it on this list. The 250 rooms and suites occupy floors 30 and above of the Kioicho Prince Park Tower, with views across the Akasaka Palace Imperial gardens to the west and the Tokyo skyline extending to the bay on clear days. The hotel's connection to Japan's Prince Hotels group gives it a genuine Japanese identity rather than an international brand attempting local authenticity. The spa and pool facilities, while smaller than the Mandarin Oriental or Aman, are impeccably maintained and operated. The Japanese garden that surrounds the Prince Park Tower, a remnant of the imperial estate that once occupied this address, is accessible to guests and is one of the most beautiful and least-visited garden spaces in central Tokyo. The proximity to the Akasaka Palace, used for state visits by foreign heads of government, gives the district a quietness and dignity that the tourist-heavy areas of Shinjuku and Ginza cannot offer. For the traveller who wants genuine Tokyo luxury without the premium rates of the top five, this is the correct choice.
